Mural Madness

The mural on the auto workshop outside is complete! The final touches included some more grass, bushes, another Acacia tree, and a monkey! The children kept asking Katie to put one up, so she did. She did such a wonderful job and the children keep telling her how great of an artist she is.

So... once we finished the project outside, we immediately started on the girls volunteer house. With the help of Mark, Gary, Stephen, and Klara we painted the house a bright yellow with a dark gray trim. Katie then painted the momma and baby elephants. We have some trimming still to paint on the doors in the house but we're practically done.

In the computer class, we cover the children's eyes to see if they are learning how to touch type well. We teach them not to kookoo (chicken) type. We call it kookoo typing because chickens eat one piece of food at a time and their heads go up after each bite, we relate that to using one finger typing as oppose to using your fingers.

Katie's been doing a wonderful job on the mural outside, may still add a giraffe and/or monkey to it, but has beautified Bosco Boys! The boys love coming to watch her work her magic and have been complementing her over and over. The boys say, "now you'll be apart of Bosco Boys forever!" This makes her happy to know she's contributing and it looks great!

After we took pictures of the mural, Bobby wanted a picture of himself. So he jumped on Kapama's car and this is how he wanted to take his picture.

Green House

During August, a group from Italy "Moving for Africa" came to build a Green House at Bosco Boys. The purpose is to cultivate certain crops which get destroyed from too much rain. This also allows more vegetables to be grown for the children to eat.

Fr. PD George, who is in charge of the shamba (farm), was very happy to get this new toy. They came for 3 weeks, enjoyed their time in Africa, and have constructed an enormous green house for the benefit of the Bosco Boys community.

Mark, Pat's friend since high school, arrived this morning in Nairobi. He'll be staying at DBYES (another Salesian home), working on a project there, and will also be spending some time at Bosco Boys. We're excited to have him here and that we can share our experience with our good friend.

New Painting Project

Katie and I have a new project to do at Bosco Boys, paint the outside of the old workshop. I (Pat) have just been painting the entire wall red but Katie is working her artistic magic and will be doing a beautiful African scenery. This is just the beginning of the project but this is the first tree that she has done.

Camp: "I Want To See Jesus - My Hero" Picnic Day

Every week before school starts, the children come back from holiday and there is a 4 day camp where the children play games, perform skits, and enjoy being back at Bosco Boys. The theme of this camp was "I Want To See Jesus - My Hero", last camp was "I Want To See Jesus".

Last camp we weren't able to go on a picnic because it was raining. Luckily this camp we were able to have a fun outing in the hills of Dagoretti.


We had to borrow some trucks from other Salesian centers to transport all the kids. Here is Vincent and Paul as we leave the school.
